Omicron Selected to Host 2010 Psi U International Convention
-
Psi U International Convention coming to Champaign in 2010
- In addition to winning two dignified awards at our international convention this summer, the Omicron chapter was chosen to host the 167th Convention (2010) right here in Champaign. This will coincide with our Centennial Celebration as we were installed as a chapter of Psi U in 1910. We are very excited to be selected for this honor and will put on a great event for our brothers from across the continent.
William P. King, Jr. '73 Award
-
Through the leadership of Brothers Lew Finkelstein '83 and Brad Corner '72, and with the generosity of Brother Thomas W. McCaffer, Jr. , we are proud to announce the inception of this award in Brother King's memory. Bill King was a true giant in our fraternity. He served the chapter in many capacities, including Alumni President, in addition to maintaining a long-standing relationship with our International. He was a fixture at Convention alongside his friends Brothers Corner and George Williams EI '79, and he made countless friends across generations of Psi U's.
Professionally, Brother King was an associate with Gesas, Pilati & Gesas for 14 years in a bankruptcy law practice. A 1977 graduate of the DePaul University College of Law who was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1980, Mr. King was a law clerk to Judge Charles B. McCormick of U.S. Bankruptcy Court before joining the law firm. When he passed away in the fall of 2000, Brother King was survived by his wife, Carol; a son, W. Patrick III; and brother, Patrick.
Carney honored at Assembly Hall
-
Take a look at this release from the athletic department
- our late Brother Chuck Carney '22 will have his name & number hung from the rafters of the Assembly Hall. He'll be among 20 Illini honored in such a way on September 13 at the "Night of Legends" alumni basketball game in Champaign.
As the press release notes,
"Chuck Carney became the second Illini to be named National Player of the Year by the Helms Foundation, earning the award in 1922. A two-time Helms first-team All-American and All-Big Ten selection in 1920 and 1922, Carney set the conference single-season scoring record of 188 points in 1920 that stood for 22 years. One of the greatest athletes in Illinois history, he also was an All-American for Bob Zuppke's football squad in 1920."
Brother Carney joins some pretty elite company - alongside Deron Williams, Luther Head, Dee Brown and other Illini bball pioneers Ray Woods and Bill Hapac.
