With the 2009 renovation to Memorial Stadium, two Psi U's took center stage in the west great hall - Brothers John Depler '21 and Charles Carney '22. Next time you take in a football game, take a look at these great Omicron gridiron legends

Congratulations to Board Member Andrew E. Haning ’00 on marrying Laurie Baxendale on July 4, 2009. As the picture attests, many Psi U’s were in attendance including Will Haning, Justin Clark, Grant Alsman, Jim Colombo, Matt Snell, Bret Coale and Adam Boyko who were groomsmen.

Brother Jay McManus '89 appeared in the July 16, 2009 issue of The Onion newspaper soaking in the Pitchfork Music Festival. It actually is a photo of him from the previous year...and he had a great time despite the caption's implication. Rock on, Jay!

Brother Mark Baker '09 was selected as a member of the 2008 Homecoming Court. Brother Baker wrote, "It should be an interesting week, I get to do a lot of cool things, including receptions at the new I-Hotel and the President's house on Saturday morning. Also going to be in the parade." Brother Baker is pictured here with his brother, John, a Notre Dame grad.

Alumni President Justin Kuehlthau '03.5 celebrated his marriage to Allison Haun, former Psi U sweetheart, in Urbana in August 2008. Brother Kuehlthau writes: "Hi Dave, Here's a picture of me and my groomsmen and some other Psi Us at the house before my wedding last Saturday. There were many other Psi Us in attendance at the actual wedding. From left to right: Josh Cook, Josh Metcalfe, Pat Zurek, Joe Ackerman, Justin Kuehlthau, Matt DalSanto, Andres Cuadra."

Brothers Dave Komie '92.5 & Dean Marinakis '90 hit the Belmont Arts & Music festival to see The Redwalls. Brother Komie taught three of the band members while they were in middle school, including the lead guitarist, Andrew Langer, seen here. If you'd like to check out their music, click here .

Great weather, good food, and fun times were the bywords at Brother Bill Cornfield's '93 annual family "pignic," held at Turtlehead Lake on the South Side. Brothers Dave Komie '92.5, Dean Marinakis '90, and Mark Dudley '92 made the trip and enjoyed a spirited game of horseshoes and a lunch of roast pig, burgers, dogs, brats, roasted corn, and loads of sides. Many thanks to Bill and his brothers (l to r - Bill, Jim, Tom, and John) for their hospitality and generosity.

Here's cool story from our 2008 archon, Mike Chen '09. I believe he went with his father, Dave Chen M.D. '83.5, who looks to be sitting to the right. So I'm still riding a high from last night, and feeling the need to show everyone I talk to clips from last night's White Sox game - thus I figured I'd keep it going with an email to you guys. I've already talked to two of you, but if you click on this link . And take a look at any of last night's (5/20) top plays (the Home Runs or any of them), look closely on the right side, so just barely on the Third Base Line, above what looks like a white US Cellular logo along the backstop... see me? I'm wearing my blue hoodie but I don't know how visible that is from the computer clips. Best seats in the house last night, and the White Sox somehow managed to crack last year's AL Cy Young winner, Sabathia! Amazing game!!

Brother Mark Baker '09 sent along this photo with the following note in May 2008:"I attached a picture from our "Old Guy vs. Young Guy" softball game today. Every reading day in the spring (day before finals start) the Juniors and Seniors take on the freshmen and sophomores in a 12 inch softball game in the fields across from Memorial Stadium. With the 16-15 come from behind win in the bottom of the ninth, the outgoing '08's closed their 4 year career 4-0 in Old Guy Young Guy softball. A pretty impressive undefeated career."

Brother Bob Petersen '68 sends along two photos of his April 2008 "brush with the Illini." He & his son, Carl, may be seen along with Illini and NFL bound players Mandelhall & J Lehman from a pre-draft pow wow held at The Union League Club in Chicago recently. All reports indicate both were great guys. Rashard and J were very friendly and entertained the audience during the Q&A session hosted by former Illini great Kurt Kittner. Let's hope they are high draft picks and enjoy long, healthy, and productive careers!

J.P. Fagan, Jr. '91 shares the following story: " Dave: I knew you would appreciate this, along with many of our brothers. The picture that I attached to this is a new friend of mine. His name is Bill Newton--he is a ninety-five year old retired geologist who lives right here in Littleton, Colorado. Very lucid and very engaging, he is on top of his game. (He apologized for not being able to sit and talk longer, as he was getting ready to go out and play a round of golf.) And we had a lot that we could talk about. Like yours truly, he went to the University of Illinois, where he earned a B.S. in Geology, although his came in 1935 and mine came in 1990. Again, like me, his first job was at the Illinois State Geologic Survey where he worked in the Oil and Gas Section. After working there for a few years, he moved west to go to graduate school (although I stopped at the Colorado School of Mines, while he went on to Stanford). He has spent a lifetime in the oil business, and has seen both booms and busts. We talked geology and the University of Illinois for about a half-hour, while my wife (a physical therapist) worked with his wife.... Now here's the best part--this guy had plenty to say regarding the University and the Chief. He spoke reverently about the Chief because he is the oldest living Chief Illiniwek! He was the third chief from 1931 through 1934....He showed me pictures of himself dressed in the Chief's clothes. If you google "Chief Illiniwek Bill Newton", you can find some additional pictures of him. Finally, we returned to talking about geology until he had to go and change for his tee time, which unfortunately came way too soon. Dave, this guy was every bit the stud as Henry Poor. You would absolutely love the guy--respect for tradition, love for his alma mater, and a razor-sharp mind that can recall people, places, and events spanning nine decades. I have only one question--what is our policy on pledging ninety-five year olds?"

Dean Marinakis '90 shares the following story: "My wife and I were flying from Chicago to Houston on Christmas day to spend the holidays with her family. When we were leaving the plane, I heard someone yell out my name from the cockpit area. It was none other than Nick Hauri '03, who works as a pilot and was hitching a ride for his early morning work shift out of Houston the following day. Nick ended up joining our family for wonderful holiday dinner. Next time any of the Brothers are catching a flight, keep a lookout for a tall Argentinian. It may turn out to be Brother Nick!"

Brother Dean Marinakis '90 writes: "Dr. Robert Rey from television's Dr. 90210 was in town recently [Winter 2007], and I was able to get the attached photo with him. He is actually a very nice guy and signed a photo for my health club, The UBC."

The Chicago Illini Club was honored by the State of Illinois Historical Society on October 13, 2006, and added to its list of Centennial Corporations. The Chicago Illini Club officially turned 130 years old in 2006; we were inaugerated the same evening as the Chicago Cubs! At center in the photo above is Lou Margaglione '91.5, President of the Chicago Illini Club, receiveing the award on behalf of the Club. Fellow Psi U Tad Huntington '95.5 is also a Director of the Club, but could not be there that evening. Brother Margaglione writes, "this has been a banner year for the Club. We were also honored over Homecoming weekend as the Chicago Illini Club was selected as the outstanding large club in the world. This is the 4th time the Club has won this, tying us with the Washington D.C. Club for the most wins ever."
